General Responsibility:
Plan, direct, train and supervise Program Areas (Waterfront, Arts & Crafts, Drama, Sports & Outdoor Education) for a camp serving children with various disabilities and disadvantaged youth.
Qualifications:
- Be 21 years or older.
- At least two years of college.
- Lifeguard certified.
- Extensive experience in the operations of camping programs as staff; program development desirable.
- Experience working with children in a supervised environment.
- Organized with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess strong leadership skills; experience in supervising and training preferred.
- Emotionally mature, willing to accept responsibility.
- Exhibit the ability to place the needs of the campers and the camp above their own.
- Team player that can relate positively to all vendors, staff, volunteers and campers.
- Be in good health, vitality and physical stamina.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist in the hiring, training and supervision of camp program staff and volunteers.
- Maintain knowledge in country, state and federal health and safety standards and fire regulations for organized camping facilitates.
- Coordinate all program activities.
- Maintain a positive relationship with client groups using facilities.
- Assure the inclusion of Camp Ronald McDonald's mission and goals in all program areas.
- Evaluate programs to determine if program vehicle is viable.
- Maintain licensing requirements as minimum of quality standards.
- Review performance of program staff on regular basis.
- Develop news releases and program promotional materials.
- Coordinate volunteer support at camp.
- Maintain a positive relationship with the U.S. Forest Service.
- Maintain a positive relationship with the community.
- Be available for conference season, job fairs and interview process.
- Assume all other duties and assignments deemed appropriate by the Camp Director.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Be able to train staff.
- Visually observe the assigned staff in performance of their duties, as well as the behavior of campers in their care and be able to provide guidance as needed.
- Visually identify hazards in the camp operation and respond appropriately.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
- Be able to work and communicate well with a variety of age groups.
End Results:
- Achieve the goals and objectives of camp, in the lives of campers and in your own personal life, by managing a quality program for camp.
- Ensure that a creative, well-balanced and safe program is provided for all participants.
- Make a positive affect on the life of each camper you come into contact with and strive to provide each camper with a fun and rewarding camp experience.
