Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Will my cell phone work at Camp?

Yes! There are some areas of our site that provide better coverage for certain carriers and where the single is stronger. Be sure to contact your wireless provider to ensure that Camp falls into your plan coverage. We ask that cell phone use be limited to break times and time off from camp.

  2. Can we receive personal calls on the main camp phone?

There is only one main phone line at Camp. This is our Primary Business and Fax line. Personal calls received on the business line will be recorded and message given to the person. Returning personal phone calls may be done during break times on the payphone (located on site) or a personal cell phone.

  3. Is there Internet access?

Yes! We have wireless DSL throughout the Gallatin House (main staff housing and administration building). Internet use is limited to break times and time off.

  4. How remote is the Camp?

Camp is located on 35 acres in the middle of Lassen National Forest. The site is approximately one mile away from the Eagle Lake Recreation Area Marina and Campgrounds. Nearby lake communities are Spalding (15 miles) and Stone's Landing (30 miles). The closet town to Camp is Susanville (14 miles). The closest cities are Chico, CA and Reno, NV (both 100 miles). Reno, NV has the closest airport.

Susanville has some limited shopping resources: Wal-Mart, drug stores, grocery / health food stores. There are movie theaters, a bowling ally, various restaurants/bars, and specialty shops along Main Street. Reno and Chico host more shopping and entertainment venues. Eagle Lake boasts numerous jogging, biking and hiking paths, as well as, 18 miles of the lake itself.

  10. What can I wear at Camp?

When it comes to appropriate camp attire: think role model and safety.

    General guidelines include:
    1. The bottom of your shirt should touch the top of your pants/shorts.
    2. Certain trends in clothing are strictly prohibited: no under garments are to be seen and shorts should be appropriate length.
    3. Closed toed shoes are mandatory in certain program areas like: biking, sports and hiking.
    4. In the kitchen, staff wear close-toed, skid proof shoes, hair pulled back and no dangly accessories.
    5. When spending time down at our beach with campers, we ask that female staff wear a one piece athletic type suit that will not easily fall down. For male staff, the same consideration of not wearing a swimsuit that rides low on the torso while in the water is expected.
    6. Bring clothes that will be conducive to changes in temperature. Mornings and evenings are cool and afternoons usually warm. Prepare for a rainstorm at least once a month at Camp.
    7. A staff shirt will be provided and will be worn on the opening day of each camp session.
