Our History and Mission

Since 1992, Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern California has been dedicated to creating, supporting and implementing programs that improve the lives of children and their families through their two main programs – Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake and the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House.

Our History

Eagle Lake Children’s Charities was founded in 1992 when Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake near Susanville, CA was established. In 1998, the Charity became Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern California and opened the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House which provides a home-away-from-home for children and their families who are being treated in one of the five Sacramento-area hospitals; UC Davis Medical Center, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Dignity Health, Kaiser, and Sutter Medical Center. Since then, the 39-bedroom facility has provided affordable, temporary housing for more than 20,000 families who have traveled from all across the United States as well as countries around the world in order to provide their child with the best medical treatment available.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Global provides each House with seed, expansion and emergency grants, as well as in-kind goods and services. However, each House relies on the people and businesses in its own community to provide the majority of funding, goods and services necessary for operations.

While part of the global network of Ronald McDonald House Charities, RMHCNC operates under its own 501(c)(3) and relies heavily on the support of community members and local organizations for funding. While local McDonald’s restaurants provide generous support to RMHCNC, the majority of financial contributions come from community donations, special events, and corporate sponsorships.

Our Mission

Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern California is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting programs that improve the lives of children and their families by supporting the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House and Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake.

The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House provides children and families with a calm, warm space where they can find rest and mutual support. This home-away-from-home provides shelter and comfort to families who need to travel to the Sacramento area in order to receive medical treatment for their child.

Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake provides participants who are at risk, disadvantaged, and/or living with physical, developmental, and/or emotional disabilities with confidence-building experiences. The Camp’s accessible site removes all physical barriers and the program promotes individuality and self-esteem through the challenges of outdoor group living and teamwork in a supportive environment.
